Members of the inter-faction union “Equal Opportunities”, people’s deputies of Ukraine Oksana Prodan, Iryna Lutsenko and Tetiana Sliuz met with young leaders – winners of the program “First Step to Success”, held by the Ukrainian Women’s Fund.
Women-deputies shared their own work experience in politics and political parties with participants of the program. Members of the inter-faction union “Equal Opportunities” stressed that they support active involvement of women in socio-political life in every possible way, as well as increase of the number of women in government authority. They spoke of necessity to fight gender stereotypes and called girls to take a more active civil position themselves.
In their turn, winners of the program “First Step to Success” noted that such meetings are extremely important for everyone who plans to combine family and career, since they provide the possibility of personal communication and personal success story. They thanked people’s deputies for practical advices regarding involvement in politics.
Since 2006 the Ukrainian Women’s Fund has initiated the Young Women's Leadership Support Program “First Step to Successes” with the assistance of a number of NGOs and public figures. Its aim is to provide active girls from different regions of Ukraine with the possibility to realize their potential and involve youth in civic activity. Annually, girls aged 18-23 come to Kyiv, take courses and receive grants for their own projects on improving life of their local communities. Traditionally, a tour is conducted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, where the girls meet successful women, who reached success in their sphere and are known for their charity or social activities. Last year, the girls had an opportunity to communicate with the people’s deputy of Ukraine, member of the inter-faction union “Equal Opportunities” Olesya Orobets.
